Essential reading for anyone interested in the current debate about the West and Afghanistan. Why have the United States and many other countries from around the world committed troops to the war in Afghanistan, a country that over the centuries has never been completely defeated? What is the Taliban? How are they connected, if at all, to Al Qaeda? What is the West fighting for in this cockpit of Asia? Here are the facts, from 2001 to the present day. This short, concise book tells what you need to know. The truth is not always what we are told. The authors get behind the falsehoods to the essential truth.

This is an in depth analysis of how and why the Western World became involved in a country without seemingly any cause to fame or fortune . However after reading the historical and then the up to date version of why, the Western Powers, particularly America, see an important role in future strategic, economical and commercial affairs of Central Asia, the reasons become clear .
